‼️ I Almost Flew into a Storm to Deliver My 4 Pillars Presentation

Hello Reader,

Last Friday I was supposed to be on a flight to Missouri to keynote at the “Rise Up & Build” conference.

As many of you know, a huge winter storm in the South and Eastern U.S. put the kibosh on a lot of plans! Including my 4 Pillars of Protection presentation!

So today, I wanted to share a quick overview of my most popular keynote address: The 4 Pillars of Protection: A Proactive Plan for Defending Kids against Predators and Pornography.

The 4 Pillars came after years of researching, writing, and talking with parents and professionals. And just thinking about how best to protect children from pornography’s harms.

I realized…it’s not just one thing.

Turns out it’s at least 4 pillars. With a foundation of love. Covered with a roof of prevention.

The truth is this—parents need a comprehensive strategy to help kids build a solid defense against pornography.

🏠 Love–love and a warm bond forms the foundation of any protective strategy. “I love you enough to protect you” is the first step.

🏠 Sexual Integrity–so kids recognize what healthy intimacy really is. And how porn teaches toxic messages that can erode our ability to love others.

🏠 Emotional Resilience–so kids develop coping skills they can use instead of turning to pornography (which is a quick and powerful diversion from negative emotions).

🏠 Tech Accountability–so kids understand the best ways to benefit from technology. And parents put in necessary guardrails (filters, parental controls, and a leveling-up plan).

🏠 Brain & Body Safety–so kids understand how porn can harm their minds and learn a plan to stay safe. And parents see the how teaching kids to reject porn keeps them safer from child sexual abuse.

🏠 Prevention Science–the principles of prevention help parents with ongoing monitoring and discipline, all with the goal of maintaining a strong relationship and a warm bond with their child.

To build your knowledge in any of these pillars, see our Defend Young Minds Articles or follow the hyperlinks above!

Stay safe out there!

Warmly,

Kristen

Hello Reader, Child sex trafficking is probably the furthest thing from your mind right now. After all, your child is home safe and sound, tucked into their cozy bed at night. But what if I told you that’s exactly where kids are most at risk of being trafficked? And what if I also told you that with protective guardrails, it doesn’t have to be? Today, sex trafficking doesn’t begin on the streets or with a stranger in a van. It begins quietly: on a device, through a message, a game chat, or a...

Hello Reader, It’s mid-January, but 2026 is still fresh! If you’re looking for a simple, screen-free way to help your child: build emotional health feel calmer, and think clearer, Journaling is a wonderful place to start. It doesn’t have to be fancy—just a few minutes with pen and paper can make a real difference. In fact, I’m trying this new journaling strategy with my family! Journaling builds powerful brain connections Journaling helps the brain “sort the pile.” When kids put feelings into...

Hello Reader, It’s here. Each year, we publish one article parents tell us they never forget. And every year, it’s the same reaction: “I had no idea that was a risk.” In 2026, most kids are not searching for porn. They’re being targeted. Kids are exposed to it accidentally through everyday apps, devices, and platforms that families use and trust, but are targeting kids. In fact, accidental exposure surged from 38% in 2023 to 59% in 2025. Which makes it even more crucial that you know the...
